Need some gift ideas for Dad this Father's Day? Kids can make some special presents just for Dad.
Hardware Style
What Dad wouldn’t appreciate a new key fob? Use a stainless steel 1-3/4” long eye bolt and add a wing nut along with a few square nuts to create the key "fob." Next top with cap nut and add a jump ring to hold his keys.
Or how about a pair of cuff links made using two 0.5” Phillips head screws and suitable nuts? Two easy projects for the smallest members of the family to make and both under $2.00.
Dad will find it easy to organize his home office clutter with a new plastic tackle box. Its many compartments neatly hold office supplies and a handle make it easy to move from room to room. One or two in cheerful colours will brighten up his work space.
Any Dad will appreciate an eye-catching rope wreath for his boat. Hot glue a rope purchased at any hardware store around a straw or Styrofoam form. Hand letter or stencil the boat’s name across the top or bottom of the completed wreath.
Getting Organized
Create a colour coded management system for Dad’s household and hobby chores. Use a colourful plastic bucket for each task – for example, a green bucket for the garden. Fill it with garden tools and include some gardener’s hand cream and a coupon offering some of your time. Use a blue bucket for his sailboat, a white one for paint supplies and maybe a yellow for household repairs. Fill each one with the appropriate supplies and tools.
Pampering Dad
Mom’s not the only one who enjoys a soothing bath. It’s easy to make up bath salts for Dad. Pour sea salts into a suitable container and add 8 to 10 drops of essential oils such as rosemary or thyme.
If Dad’s a closet bathroom reader, make him a magazine cubbie. All that is needed are a shadow box, wooden dowel and a glue gun. Remove the back and glass from the shadow box, cut the dowel to fit the inside width of the opening of the frame and hot glue it in place about one third of the way up. Hammer two nails into the wall and hang the cubbie in place. Add a couple of Dad’s favourite reads to finish up.
For the FIFA Fan
If you’re a computer whiz and Dad is a soccer fan, get him ready to download his favourite moments of the FIFA World Cup 2010 on personalized DVDs or CDs. You can design and printout labels using photos from the official FIFA website to decorate the DVDs and the jewel case.
These are just a few ideas you can do to create the perfect Father's Day gift for your Dad. He will not only appreciate your efforts but will have the bragging rights for the best gift he's ever received. As always, it’s important that an adult or older sibling help out any smaller family members when assembling gift ideas for a parent.
